My second hand treasures #3

DSC_1912

WHAT: Winlit fringe leather jacket
WHERE: Goodwill, 5855 Lankershim Blvd, Los Angeles, CA 91601, USA
PRICE: 67 DKK (10 USD)

One of my roomies, who had been to LA before, told me about Goodwill. He said they had a lot of brands for just a few dollars, because the rich people donate their clothes to this thrift shop. So of course I had to check it out. Brands that I saw: Calvin Klein, DKNY, Ralph Lauren, Tommy Hilfiger, Banana Republic, Steve Madden, DC, Adidas, GAP, Hale Bob, H&M, Zara and Forever21. The prices are really good. A lot of it is like new or in good condition, but there is also a lot of rubbish, so you need to have patience and to be lucky to find something really good. I think it is definitely worth a visit if you are into shopping second hand.

Hiking to the Hollywood sign

img_6552.jpg

Ready to go!

The hike to the Hollywood sign is really nice and not so tough as the one in Runyon Canyon. You should really go up there, if you are in LA. You will have the most amazing view from there to both downtown and the Valley. It is possible to see the sign from pretty close, but there is a fence, so you can’t get all the way to it and there are police helicopters watching that no one is jumping the fence. I really loved this hike! LA is so beautiful.

I made a lot of small stops on the way up to the sign to enjoy this amazing view to downtown. The weather wasn’t the best, but it didn’t really matter. I loved it.

Finally there! Wow, what a view.

A panorama photo from my iPhone. Really like this one.

On our way down it was pretty cloudy and cold, but still beautiful.

Lately on Instagram #6

Lately I have been in Rome with my boo Gudrun (you can read our recommendations here). We took a lot of pictures of each other and the breathtaking monuments (Gudrun instagrammed as well, se more here) among others Fontana di Trevi, which is one of the most famous fountains in the world. They say that if you throw a coin over your shoulder and into the fountain, you will come back to Rome again, so of course we did that. We just loved Rome so much! When we came back we had Tour de Cuisine at the dorm, a huge yearly party where each floor at the dorm has their own theme, and our floor had “Barbie”-theme. A few weeks later I went to the Grimes concert in Copenhagen with some friends. The week after that I flew to LAX, where Celia and Jonas picked me up. My first meal in the US of course had to be a Double-Double from In-N-Out Burger. Sooo good!!Mu Then we drove on Mulholland Drive and enjoyed the view over downtown. The next days we did a lot of cool stuff like hiking in Runyon Canyon, meeting James Franco, enjoyed the area by the Griffith Observatory and Santa Monica.

A magical afternoon in Santa Monica

DSC_1914

While we were on our way to Santa Monica Beach I was just super excited. There is just something special about beaches… I always feel so happy when I’m near the sea. It is even more amazing when the sky has this unbelievable blue color and it’s sunny like here in California. I could spend a lot of time by the sea. One of the things I appreciate the most about Denmark is actually that you are never too far away from one, as I probably would not like it too much to live somewhere without a beach nearby. Every time I saw California beaches on the tv or on pictures I was stunned, so I could not wait to see them in real life. By the way it was also the first time I saw the Pacific Ocean. I was not disappointed to say the least.

Other than the surroundings, I really liked to watch people do all kinds of activities, that they seemed to do frequently. People are walking on the lines and swinging in the rings on the beach. It is so much harder than it looks. I tried to swing in the rings and I sucked pretty much, haha. A lot of people bike and skate by the beach. The coolest way to get around though is an electric longboard from Boosted. They are super popular here on the West Coast and we saw a bunch of people on those. Santa Monica is just the coolest place ever!

I just loved the atmosphere in Santa Monica. It was so much fun to watch the locals while they were doing all kinds of activities.

The colorful and weird houses by the beach made everything look so cool.

Book signing at Book Soup

img_6402.jpg

Book Soup on Sunset Boulevard

Jonas mentioned that James Franco would be signing “Straight James/Gay James” here in LA this weekend, so I had to check out what it was all about. The poem collection seemed pretty funny, so we decided to go to Book Soup and get a signed copy. I have never been to a book signing before so it was fun to try even though the actual signing of my copy took like 10 seconds, haha. He was wearing sunglasses, so we are guessing he had had great Saturday night!

Almost there!

Postcard from LA

Runyon Canyon with the Hollywood sign in the background

Celia and Jonas were already waiting for me when I was finally done with queuing in Immigration and the Exit Control. It was so good to see them again! We didn’t go straight to their apartment in NoHo, because Celia wanted to keep me awake for as long as possible to help me adjust to the 9 hour time difference. It was night in Denmark, when I arrived. First stop was In-N-Out Burger! I really wanted to try it and their famous Double-Double was just what I needed. D-e-l-i-c-i-o-u-s! Then we went to a coffee place at Melrose Place, where we could enjoy our coffee outside. The weather is so awesome here in LA! Even though it is a little foggy and grey these days, it’s warm enough to leave your jacket and even wear shorts, which I love. After the coffee we cruised in the mountains while we listened to ‘California Love’, enjoyed the sight from Mulholland Drive and saw the Hollywood sign before we went to NoHo to eat sushi for dinner.

My friends love to hike in Runyon Canyon, where we have already been twice. The second time was without Jonas though, because the first time we went, he ran down a steep place and couldn’t stop, so he fell. Poor guy! But it looked super funny and I really regret not filming it, haha. Runyon is an amazing place, you just have to be a little careful and avoid rolling down the hill. The drive up to Runyon is also really cool with amazing views. I can’t wait to go again!

I hope you have an amazing saturday evening in Denmark. Here the time is 7.43 and Jonas just made coffee for me. I am so spoiled! For more pictures follow me on Instagram (@amarillamirilo) and Snapchat (teen13).

True love forever! :) And an amazing view over LA.

Next stop: Los Angeles

Omg, omg, omg!!!

images

Right now I am sitting in the Dreamliner, that’s gonna take me all the way from Copenhagen to Los Angeles. I still can’t believe I’m really going!

I’m going to visit my friend Celia and her boyfriend Jonas. It’s gonna be so cool to experience everything together with them. We are going to hike in Runyon, eat delicious food (omg American stuff is sooo good!) and drink lots of frappuccinos. Oh and the weather…. I can’t wait to wear shorts again, it’s gonna be so sweet. Now I just have to sleep and chill and before I realize it I will be in LAX! Omg, omg, omg!!!
